Heartburn And Pregnancy
Did you know heartburn and pregnancy usually come hand in hand? There’s no need to worry too much about it though. There are ways to prevent, relieve and treat it. Learn more about it through the article below.
Heartburn and Pregnancy – How You Can Relieve Acid Reflux Symptoms Naturally
Unfortunately, all too often, heartburn and pregnancy go hand in hand. If you are pregnant and are experiencing painful acid reflux, you can use natural treatments to relieve your symptoms.
The following homemade remedies will help you reduce the discomfort caused by heartburn during your pregnancy.
- Avoid eating food late at night or before going to sleep.
- Don’t consume greasy or peppery food, peppermint, chocolate, tomato sauces, effervescent and carbonated drinks, alcohol, caffeine, and fruits with citrus juice.
- Wear flexible clothes. This is especially important when you’re pregnant. Tight clothes can exacerbate your symptoms by putting pressure on your belly and the lower part of your esophageal sphincter.
- Eat smaller meals. Overstuffing your abdomen will increase your heartburn symptoms.
- Don’t lie down after eating, and wait for a minimum of three hours after eating before going to bed at night. If you don’t wait, the stomach acids will return into the esophagus, causing you great discomfort.
- Raise your head at night by sleeping on a number of pillows. This will help to keep your gastric contents from going up into the lower section of your esophagus.
- Don’t smoke. You shouldn’t smoke anyway when you’re pregnant, so reducing heartburn is just an added reason to stay away from cigarettes.
If you have fairly mild acid reflux symptoms, you will probably be able to gain relief by making the above lifestyle changes.
But if you have more severe symptoms, you should speak with your doctor, who will weigh the benefits versus risks of having you take heartburn medications, such as antacids while you are pregnant.
Although antacids are widely used to relieve symptoms, you should avoid antacids with sodium bicarbonate during your pregnancy. The magnesium in antacids can interfere with uterus contractions during labor, and should be avoided in the last stages of labor.
Discover even more heartburn and pregnancy home remedies that will relieve your symptoms faster than you ever thought possible… even if you’ve never succeeded at curing your acid reflux symptoms before.
